VADIA Programme Framework

VADIA Programme Framework

VADIA programme framework shows it’s impossible to dissociate an entire community from its main authors, its most striking and charismatic personalities or even the anonymous and ordinary people who are equally valuable.

There is a group of people to whom the Culture of this Region is still in time to give due recognition because they have helped to mould this identity, which involves listening to individuals who, by their mastery and dedication, have literally become the artisans of this heritage and defenders of this legacy that we now intend to recover and maintain.

To hear them in the first person, those who are still alive among us, is to give life to those who have already departed, since they are the living witnesses of our common past, who carry this very rich heritage, the tangible, but above all the intangible, which we simply cannot ignore.

VADIA programme framework initiatives are valid to honour them, since these are the people, mostly anonymous and unknown to the general public, especially those who still live in the Old Town of Funchal, but also its former residents, who despite living in other parts of the city today, make a point of spending a large part of their days there.

Either through the salutary conviviality that a simple card game in the local municipal garden provides above all to the elderly, or in the fishing activity of many amateur fishermen with their traditional canoes that, still maintain on São Tiago’s beach, or going to the Lavradores Market to buy genuine Madeiran products, in this diverse set of activities, maintain, as was referred, the “Life” in a historical and emblematic place.
